About the Yellowtail Snapper (Ocyurus chrysurus)
The Yellowtail snapper is native to the western Atlantic, including the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. They can be found anywhere from the surface level down to nearly 600 feet. They can reach lengths of nearly 3 feet but are more commonly seen at around 16in, and the biggest one ever recorded is 9 lbs. This is a popular commercial species and is often caught using their hook and line method. It can be distinguished by its bright yellow lateral line that runs from most to the tip of its caudal fin.
