About the River Otter (Lontra canadensis)
The North American river otter can actually be found as far north as Canada and even Alaska and prefers to make residence near or on a riverbank, where it has easy access to both land and water. The river otter is an excellent swimmer. Using its sleek water-shedding brown fur, webbed feet, and its long body, the river otter can cruise upstream without much effort, often able to hold their breath for up to 8 minutes. The river otter prefers to dine on fish, though it will eat frogs and crayfish as well.
