About the Kodiak Brown Bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi)
The Kodiak Brown Bear has become a distinguished subspecies due to their island habitat isolation. They get their name from the island they inhabit, Kodiak Island and Admiralty Islands. Living on this island for so long without any immigration or emigration, they have become genetically diversified, thus classifying them as a new subspecies of Brown Bear.
