About the Garter Snake (Thamnophis sirtalis)
The Garter snake is native to North America and is most commonly seen with yellow stripes on a black, green, or brown core color. The average length of this particular garter snake is 22in with a maximum length of nearly 6 feet. This snake is one of the most common snakes in our backyards and is great natural pest control for your home. They are a harmless snake species and will often reside in dark and moist locations under rocks or create burrows in the ground.
