About the Rock Bass (Ambloplites rupestris)
The species is native to east-central North America and is a member of the sunfish family. Rock bass can be disguised from other sunfish by the red eyes and having six spines in the anal fin compared to 3 in other sunfish. The rock bass grows to an average of 6-10 inches in length and rarely weighs over 1lb. This species prefers habitats such as rocky and vegetated stream pools. With that being said, they can commonly be found in northern lakes with rocky banks.
