For sale, we have a first-class Reproduction Steelhead taxidermy fish mount, measuring 40.5″ long, with a girth of 21″ and an estimated live weight of 20 lbs. A steelhead is a rainbow trout that goes out to sea, compared to a regular rainbow trout that stays in freshwater only. This Steelhead is posed facing the viewer’s right side with an open mouth. The fins are in fantastic condition, the painting is beautiful, and the taxidermy work is masterful. All of this combined has helped this item earn our coveted World Class™ overall quality rating. All applicable dimensions are included to help ensure this item will fit within your intended display space.

– This is a reproduction, meaning no animal parts were used in the making of this item.

Animal Description

About the Steelhead (Oncorhynchus mykiss spp.)

The Steelhead is a coastal subspecies of the Rainbow trout in that it migrates from the ocean to freshwater tributaries to spawn. However, steelhead in the Great Lakes does not migrate to and from the ocean but rather from the Great lakes up small feeder tributaries to spawn. Because Steelhead is a subspecies of Rainbow trout, they appear very similar to them in nature, although they often have larger spots on their dorsal side. This fish has become a fishing sensation for recreational anglers and especially fly fishers targeting large trout species. This fish can grow up to 45 inches and weigh upwards of 60 lbs.
