About the Ostrich (Struthio camelus)
The ostrich is a particularly famous (not to mention the largest) flightless bird in the world. While it is native to Africa, the ostrich can be found throughout several habitats worldwide, specifically farms, where they are raised for both their rich, full feathers and their hearty meat. Their diet consists primarily of vegetation, though they have been known to eat insects and small invertebrates. The ostrich may look clumsy, but its size can be deceiving. Though they weigh in anywhere from 150 to 300 lbs and reach up to 9 feet in height, the ostrich can reach a land speed of up to 43 mph, easily the fastest of any bird on the planet.
