About the Shiras Moose (Alces alces shirasi)
The Shiras Moose is the smallest subspecies of moose and can be found in the western states of Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and Idaho. Moose have a rusty brown coat with a large hump on their back just above the body’s shoulders. A moose has palmated antlers, unlike other members of the Cervidae family. The Shiras moose has the smallest body size and the smallest antlers of any North American moose species.
