About the Cave Bear (Ursus spelaeus)

The Cave Bear is native to Europe and Asia, and this particular bear is from the caves of Romania. Cave bears walked their last 24,000 years ago. The Cave Bear is believed to have been descended from the Etruscan bear that lived nearly 100,000 years ago. These bears are comparable in size to the largest bears of today. The male bears are predicted to have weighed upwards of 1300 lbs and the females of 600lbs.
