About the Sloth Bear (Melursus ursinus)
The Sloth Bear, sometimes known as the labiated bear, is native to the forested grasslands in regions of India. Sloth Bears have a shaggy grey-black coat with a pale white snout. In addition, this species has creamy colored v-shaped pattern found on their chests just in front of their front legs. Sloth bears will grow 5 to 6 feet long and weigh an average of 200-300 pounds. These bears live on a steady diet of various insects such as termites and tropical fruits. The first discovery of this bear was by a man known as George Shaw in 1791.
