About the Jaguar (Panthera onca)
The Jaguar is the only “big cat” or “Panthera” species found in the wild in the Americas, and is actually the third largest “big cat”, behind the Lion and Tiger. The Jaguar can be distinguished by it’s large, jet-black spotting, and lithe, muscular figure. It prefers hunting the rainforest and tropical wooded areas of Central and South America, though it can be found in the southernmost tropical parts of the United States. The Jaguar is a solitary hunter, and often stalks it’s prey patiently, waiting in the thick brush, or perched in a massive tree.
