    About the Cockatoo (Cacatua spp.)

The Cockatoo is species of parrot native to the Australian region of the world. These birds are distinguished by their colorful crowns and short curved beaks used in eating fruits from the tree canopies. Cockatoos tend to feed in large flocks, especially when foraging for seeds on the forest floor. Cockatoos were first included in the parrot family in 1940 and are often larger than a true parrot. These birds can reach speeds of up to 45mph because of their long broad wings. These birds are not your early bird-like mourning doves, and they like to wait for the sun to warm up their roost before waking up. They are very vocal birds once off the roost and use this as a defense mechanism and a way of communicating in a feeding frenzy.
