About the Raccoon (Procyon Lotor)
The Raccoon (Procyon lotor) is the largest member of the procyonid family weighing 15-20 lbs when full grown. Raccoons are known for their bandit-like ‘mask’ which consists of dark black hair that covers their eyes and cheeks. Raccoons are very opportunistic omnivores, with their diet consisting of plants, fruits, insects, crayfish, frogs and mice as well as almost any scrap food that is readily available. Their opportunistic feeding habitats often earn them bad reputations around houses and cabins where they often tip over trash cans.
