About the Porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum)
The porcupine is a very distinct rodent, best known for its large quills, which both serve as a defense against predators and camouflage, which usually appears to be grey, brown, or (rarely) even white. The porcupine can be found throughout the US and in southern Canada, and the northern parts of Mexico. These large rodents are strictly herbivores spending most of their time in trees when feeding.
