About the Waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus)
The waterbuck (or waterbok) is a large, bulky antelope species found throughout the plains and bush habitats of sub-Saharan Africa. Their coat is typically dark or reddish-brown, which continues to get darker and greyer as they mature, and they have a small white “bib” under their jawline and a white patch on their rump. The waterbok has a distinct oval-shaped ear, which sticks straight out from the side of their head, and the males grow two long, slightly curved, spiraling horns, which grow up to two feet in length. The waterbok’s diet is strictly rich vegetation found throughout the African bush.
