About the Grants Gazelle (Nanger granti)
The Grant’s Gazelle is a large species of gazelle found typically in the eastern regions of Africa. Their coat consists of a creamy orange-colored chest and back, white underbelly and a few dark markings on the head and flank. The Male gazelle can weigh nearly 175 lbs (females 100 lbs) and grow horns that can reach 20 inches or more in length with a clearly visible ‘ringed’ growth pattern. Their diets consist mostly of vegetation and browse, including a substantial amount of grasses as well. Grants Gazelles have the unique ability to utilize the water found in the browse they eat to meet their hydration requirements, allowing them to go without water for an extended period of time.
