    About the Sable (Hippotragus Niger)

The African Common Sable is a large species of antelope found in the southeastern region of Africa. Their habitat includes savannas, grasslands, and woodlands, where they eat grasses and vegetation. Sable may grow to nearly 600 lbs with horns that curve up and backward from their head with many ridges. Their coloration is dark brown (nearly black) on the back and upper neck with creamy white underbelly, chin, and face markings. Males are very territorial, and only 1 male Bull will be found in a herd at a time. When a herd gets too large and breaks into smaller groups, bachelor males will compete for the head position in the β€˜new herd.’
