About the Sauger (Sander canadensis)
The Sauger, often mistaken with the Walleye, is, in fact, a distinct species of fish within the Percidae family. This fish can be distinguished from the walleye by the lack of a white spot on the caudal fin and its distinct spotted dorsal fin. Sauger distribution is nationwide and is recognized for being the most migratory percid species in North America. They share a very similar diet with walleye, predating on small fish and other aquatic invertebrates depending on availability.
