About the Black Crappie (Pomoxis annularis)
The white crappie is one of two types of crappie (other: black crappie) found throughout freshwater lakes in North America. It shares the same size, shape and habitat as the black crappie, but it has a lighter silver-green coloration with dark green or grey spotting. Their dorsal fin starts further back along the spine than the black crappie, and their mouths extend down past their eyes. Crappie are typically 4-12 inches long, and prefer lakes, reservoirs and large rivers with little or no current.
