About the Coues Deer (Odocoileus virgianus couesi)

The Coues deer, otherwise known as the grey ghost, is a southwestern subspecies of the Eastern White-tailed deer. This deer is geographically isolated to the southwestern deserts of the United States, where nutrients are a limiting resource to substantial growth. They are found most abundantly in Arizona in the southeastern portion of the state. A Coues deer will seldomly exceed 100 pounds and won’t grow to more than 3 feet tall from the ground to the top of the shoulder.
