About the Pronghorn Antelope (Antilocapra americana)

The “underrated” pronghorn is the fastest land-dwelling animal in North America (second in the world only to the infamous cheetah) often clocking in around 50 MPH. Pronghorns are relatively small, around 3 feet tall at the shoulders, and are reddish brown in color, with a white belly and neck. When alerted by predators, the pronghorn will lift the hair on their backsides, displaying a white “warning sign” for fellow pronghorn within a mile radius. The “prong horn” itself is found on the male, and it splits in the middle, forming the forward “prong” for which it gets it’s namesake.
