About the Raccoon (Procyon Lotor)
The Raccoon (Procyon lotor) is the largest member of the procyonid family, weighing 15-20 lbs when full grown. Raccoons are known for their bandit-like ‘mask,’ consisting of dark black hair covering their eyes and cheeks. Raccoons are very opportunistic omnivores, with their diet consisting of plants, fruits, insects, crayfish, frogs, mice, and almost any scrap food that is readily available. Their opportunistic feeding habitats often earn bad reputations around houses and cabins where they usually tip over trash cans.
