About the Mahi-Mahi (Coryphaena hippurus)
The Mahi-Mahi, also known as dolphinfish (although there is no relation to dolphins) and dorado, is found in tropical oceans. The name mahi-mahi comes from Hawaii and means very strong. They can swim at speeds of up to 58 miles per hour! Mahi-Mahi is identifiable by their stunning colors, gold on the sides, blue pectoral fins, and bright blue and green on their sides and back. Mahi-Mahi is very sought after for its meat which is served in many restaurants. Females are generally smaller than males, but the typical weight for mahi-mahi is 15 to 29 pounds.
