About the Striped Skunk (Mephitis mephitis)

Skunks are great foragers, found in highly populated areas all over the US, Mexico, and Canada. Their diet consists mostly of whatever they happen to find along the road, in a trash can, or a dumpster, and are rarely found more than a mile from a water source, like a river or lake. They prefer insects, nuts, fish, fruits, and grass when they aren’t digging in dumpsters. Skunks are pretty easy to spot since they are mostly black, with their infamous white stripe stretching from their head all the way to their tail. Skunks are known for their great defense mechanism, a pungent odor they spray from their rear to detract predators and help them escape.
