Animal Description

About the Gorilla (Gorilla gorilla)

Gorillas are the largest extant species of the 3 great apes and are native to Sub-Saharan Africa. They are primarily herbivorous and can grow upwards of 500lbs, and females can grow upwards of 300 pounds. Adult males can stand up to nearly 6 feet in height, while females will top out at around 5 feet. What’s crazy about the gorilla is that their wingspan is much greater than their height. In fact, their wingspan is anywhere from 7.5 to almost 9 feet.
