About the Yellow-Bellied Marmot (Marmota flaviventris)
The Yellow-bellied Marmot is native to the mountains of Canada and the western United States. They are similar in color to a groundhog in that their fur is primarily brown with a brown-yellow chest and a white patch covering its face. This particular species of marmot can weigh up to 11 lbs and grow to nearly 30 in from nose to tail. Yellow-bellied marmots are omnivorous, meaning they eat both plants and insects or other animal sources. Marmots are a colony species often in groups of 10-12 where sexual maturity is reached at 2.
