Animal Description

About the Gray Fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus)

The gray fox is found throughout North America and sports a salt-and-pepper gray and red coat with a black stripe along its back and across its face. The gray fox is nocturnal and feeds on small rodents and mammals, as well as insects as it hunts along burrows and foliage. When in danger, gray foxes have been known to climb trees using their unique curved claws for escape, a rare ability among canines.
