About the African Bushpig (Potamochoerus larvatus)
The bushpig is a nocturnal member of the pig family that can be found in the woodland, swamp and brush areas of southeastern Africa. The bushpig is similar to the domestic pig in some obvious ways, but it’s long, muscular snout and mix of dark brown and slate grey coat of hair differentiate it enough that it can be easily distinguished from other pigs. Bushpigs tend to graze for grass, roots and other low-growing vegetation in groups of around a dozen or more, and have a reputation as a somewhat regular nuisance to farmers, wiping out crops and harassing cattle and other domestic farm animals.
