Animal Description

About the Golden Pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus)

The Golden Pheasant is a very colorful bird, identified partly by the yellow crest at the top of its head and unique orange and black striped ‘hood.’ They can grow to a weight of nearly 6 lbs with an overall length of 30 inches or more. Males often display bright colors to attract their mates, while the females most often exhibit muted and camouflaged colors to help hide them from predators and better protect their young. Their diets consist mostly of plants and grains with some invertebrates mixed in.
