About the Pacific Halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis)

The Pacific Halibut is found on the Northern Pacific Ocean, where it is most concentrated off the coast of Alaska and the Bering Sea. Halibut are bottom-dwelling fish and prefer water temperatures ranging from 38 to 46 °F. These fish are found at depths of 600-1500 feet, which is far below the sunlight penetration zone of the ocean. These fish can grow upwards of 500lbs and grow to lengths of 8 feet. Being bottom feeders, these fish have adapted to their environment and have both their eyes placed on one side of their bodies. Their colors are typically based on the bottom color of the ocean floor that they are inhabiting.
