About the Springbok (antidorcas marsupialis)
The Springbok is found throughout the southern regions of Africa. It is a mid-sized antelope that is extremely fast and nimble, reaching speeds of nearly 60 mph when running, with the ability to leap brush or fences over 12 feet in height. Males have thicker horns than females, though the female’s slender horns sometimes grow longer. Their habitat includes open grasslands where they diet mostly on fresh grass. Springboks have the unique ability to utilize the water found in the grass and shrubs they eat to meet their hydration requirements, allowing them to go without water for an entire season if necessary. There are three distinct colorations of Springboks, which include: Common (tan, brown, cream); Black (chocolate, cream); or White (white, cream).
