Animal Description

About the Green Iguana (Iguana iguana)

The Green Iguana is native to the trees of central South America, where it can grow up to 5 feet in length. This species is well known for its ability to swim as a defense against predators and has a very rigid back to deter aerial attacks. Green Iguanas are fully herbaceous unless they consume bugs during the consumption of leaf matter. The Green Iguana has been introduced to a few states within the United States, including Texas, Florida, Hawaii. This species is a very common pet animal for American households and often outgrows its enclosure.
