About the Atlantic Tripletail (Lobotes surinamensis)

The Atlantic tripletail is native to the warm water tropics of the Atlantic Ocean. The fish gets its name from its 3 fins that are found close together near the fish’s rear. The dorsal, caudal, and anal fins are all rounded off, forming the tripletail, and unlike most fish species, have scales stretching out onto them. A fun fact about this particular fish is that its head becomes more and more concave as it ages. Unlike most tropical fish, this one has very little color and is often just a dark brownish-yellow.
