About the Red Belly Snake (Storeria occipitomaculata)
The red-bellied snake is a woodland snake native to the eastern United States. Like most snakes, it can be found under logs, rocks, and leafy debris. This snake can be found growing to lengths ranging from 4-10in and is often distinguished by its redbelly. The snake dorsal or backside color is variable from brown, black, and tan. The primary diet of these snakes may come as a surprise to most, but they are feeding on almost strictly slugs.
