About the Green Snake (Opheodrys vernalis)
The smooth green snake is a non-venomous species of snake native to North America and has also been referred to as a grass snake. It ranges in length from 14-20 inches in its adult stage and gets its name from its solid green scale color, but this is not always the case. As juveniles,s they can be anything from blueish-green to brown, making them mistakable for a garter snake. However, the range of the green snake is much smaller than the garter snake making the overlap for mistakes much less.
