About the Green Snake (Opheodrys vernalis)
The smooth green snake is a non-venomous species of snake native to North America and has also been referred to as a grass snake. It ranges in length from 14-20 inches in its adult stage and gets its name from its solid green scale color but this is not always the case. As juveniles they can be anything from blueish green to a brown color, making them mistakable for a garter snake. However, the range of the green snake is much smaller than the garter snake making the overlap for mistake much less.
