About the Nine-Banded Armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus)
The Nine-banded Armadillo is native to North, Central, And South America, making it the most wide spread species of armadillo. This particular armadillo is primarily nocturnal and is an insectivore meaning its primary food source is insects such as ants and termites. A fun fact about these armored mammals is that they can jump up to four feet in the air when frightened. An adult armadillo weighs an average of 10 lbs and has an average total body length of 36 in.
